Thinking about trying surfing while you’re in Taghazout? You don’t need to arrive with your own board or know how to stand up. A beginner lesson gives you time to understand the basics, practise on the sand and start catching waves with a coach nearby.
I’m Jamal, a local surf coach based in Taghazout. I teach in English, French and Darija. Here’s how to prepare for your first session and what to check before you book.
How much does a surf lesson in Taghazout cost?
With Taghazout with Jamal, a group surf lesson is currently €22 per person, including a surfboard, wetsuit and transport for the session. A session lasts around 2–2½ hours and usually starts at 10:00.
Confirm your date, meeting point and final price when booking. If you’re staying outside Taghazout, send your accommodation location so I can confirm pickup arrangements and any supplement before you decide.
Prefer individual coaching? Ask about a private surf lesson and I’ll confirm availability and the current price for your group.

What happens during a beginner surf lesson?
We start by discussing your experience and how comfortable you feel in the water. Tell me if you’ve never surfed, have tried once or twice, or already catch small waves.
Before entering the sea, we go through the board, your position, the basic pop-up and the safety instructions for that beach. Practising on the sand helps you understand the movement before you try it in the water.
The water session depends on your level and the conditions. For first-time surfers, the focus is learning how to position yourself, catch suitable waves and find your balance. Standing up might happen quickly or take more practice. The aim is to understand the basics and build confidence at your own pace.

Where will we surf?
The beach is chosen for the group’s level and that day’s conditions. A famous surf spot isn’t automatically the right place for a first lesson.
Send me your dates rather than choosing a beach only from a photo. Wind, swell and tides can change the plan, so the meeting details and surf location are confirmed for your session.
What should you bring?
- Swimwear and a towel
- Drinking water and sunscreen
- Dry clothes and a warm layer for afterwards
The board and wetsuit are included. If you already have equipment, mention it when you book so we can discuss the session and quote.
Leave valuables at your accommodation where possible, and ask about storage arrangements before bringing anything you need to keep secure.
Can you join alone?
Yes, solo travellers are welcome. Send your preferred date and I’ll check the available group sessions. You can also enquire as a couple or with friends.
If you and your friends have different experience levels, tell me beforehand. That helps us plan a session that fits the people joining.
Staying in Tamraght or Agadir?
You can enquire while staying in either area. Share your accommodation location and I’ll explain what transport can be arranged, the meeting time and any extra cost. Don’t assume every pickup location is included in the headline price.
One lesson or a surf and stay package?
A single lesson is a simple way to try surfing during a short visit. If surfing is the main reason for your holiday, a surf and stay package lets you plan accommodation and several sessions together.
Compare the number of nights, surf sessions, room type, meals and any yoga options before choosing. Your room availability and final package quote are confirmed directly.

Questions before your first session
Do I need to know how to swim?
Tell me honestly about your swimming ability and comfort in the sea before booking. We need to discuss whether the planned session and conditions are suitable for you.
Can children join?
Send the child’s age, experience and swimming ability before booking. I’ll confirm whether a suitable session can be arranged and explain supervision requirements.
What if the conditions change?
Surfing depends on the ocean. If the conditions affect the planned session, we’ll discuss the options. Ask for the cancellation and rescheduling terms before confirming your booking.
Can I book for tomorrow?
Send a message with your date, number of people, level and accommodation location. I’ll check availability and confirm the plan. A message is an enquiry until we agree on the details.
